If the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) would have its way, no Filipino worker will ever be ignorant of HIV and AIDS anymore.

Recently released Department Order 102-10 signed by DOLE Secretary Marianito Roque on the “Guidelines for the Implementation of HIV and AIDS Prevention and Control in the Workplace Program,” requires “all private workplaces to have a policy on HIV and AIDS and to implement a workplace program in accordance with Republic Act 8504 and provisions of the Labor Code and other international standards.”

Labor research arm Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) has partnered with UN Women Philippines for its 4th Strategic Conversations series under the theme “Promoting Inclusive Growth for All through Gender Equality, Migrant Rights and Decent Work,” held on February 14-15, 2012 at the Bayleaf Hotel, Intramuros, Manila.

This was the call of the Institute for Labor Studies, at its recent offering during the Department of Labor and Employment year-round green themed flag ceremonies  tagged “DOLE in Green, Sa Isip, Sa Salita at Sa Gawa.”

In support of its Green Our DOLE Program (GODP), the Department of Labor and Employment has reserved its Monday mornings for green initiatives its offices can emulate. Beginning January of this year, all attached agencies, bureaus, services, and selected regional offices have been directed to host Department flag ceremonies based on this green theme.

More than 2500 students and career guidance counselors will gather for a campus lecture on Decent Work in Cebu.  The event marks the final stop of the “Balik Tanaw, Bagong Pananaw” Diamond Lecture Series of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) scheduled on October 9 at the Cebu Doctors University Auditorium.

But are the available internship programs living up to the objective of preparing students for work after graduation?
