The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) participated in a two-day awareness-raising workshop on “R204 - Transition from the Informal to the Formal Economy Recommendation, 2015 (No. 204)” or the recommendation concerning the transition from the informal to the formal economy organized by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), and the National Anti-poverty Commission-Workers in the Informal Sector (NAPC-WIS) from 29 November to 1 December held at the City State Hotel in Ermita, Manila.

Two of the Institute for Labor Studies’ division chiefs passed the nationwide Career Executive Service Written Examination (CES WE) held last September 3, 2017 simultaneously in Quezon City, Cebu City, and Davao city.

The November 2017 list of passers included the names of Institute’s Labor and Social Relations Research Division OIC-Chief Patrick Patriwirawan, Jr. and Advocacy and Publications Division OIC-Chief Reinerio A. Alba. They took their exams in Quezon City.

The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) organized a Technical Learning Session (TLS) on “Senior Citizen: Life After Retirement,” which focused on Republic Act 7432, as amended by 9257, otherwise known as the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2003. The activity was held on November 21 at the iLearn conference room in Intramuros, Manila.

 The Inter-Agency Committee on Research and Statistical Matters held its 4th IAC-RSM Meeting for 2017 last 24 November at the ECC Conference Room in Sen. Gil J. Puyat Avenue, Makati City.

Representing Assistant Secretary Alex Avila, ILS OIC-Executive Director Ahmma Charisma Lobrin-Satumba presided the meeting. Also in attendance were Director Stella Banawis of the Employees Compensation Commission (ECC) and Director Dominique Rubia-Tutay of the Bureau of Local Employment (BLE).

The Institute for Labor Studies, through a post-training report of one of its division chiefs, has identified a research project for a comprehensive study on “Unemployment Insurance in the Philippines” for 2018.

The recommendation was proposed by Labor and Social Relations Research Division OIC-Chief Patrick P. Patriwirawan, Jr. who joined other Philippine representatives to the training workshop on “Employment Insurance: Global, Regional and Korean Experience on (Un) Employment Insurance” held last 06-11 November 2017 in Seoul, Republic of Korea.
