The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) held a forum titled “ Harnessing Opportunities and Mitigating Risks: A Policy Forum on Trade and Employment” held last 24 July 2018 at ILS iLearn Conference Room in Intramuros, Manila.

The event sought to provide an overview of concepts related to the field of international trade particularly focusing on the different international trade policies adopted by the Philippines. It also aimed to familiarize participants with the different mechanisms enforced to promote the welfare of domestic industries amidst international trade.

Last July 9, 2018 , in a flagraising ceremony hosted by the Institute for Labor Studies (ILS), the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), headed by Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III, conferred a posthumous award to the late Senator Edgardo J. Angara for uplifting the lives of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families.

The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) marked its 31st Anniversary with the awarding of the ISO 9001:2015 certification from the representatives of the AJA Registrars Inc. on 25th July 2018 at Bayleaf Hotel, Intramuros, Manila.

”In formulating the National Green Jobs Human Resource Development (HRD) Plan, there is no hard and fast rule, as we should also take into consideration the unique situation of labor across sectors with the objective of building a climate smart industries and services with the view of creating green communities in the long run,” was the opening statement of DOLE Assistant Secretary Federico V. Abuan, during the first Inter-Agency Committee (IAC) meeting for the formulation of the National Green Jobs HRD Plan last 17 July 2018 at the ILS iLearn Conference Room, 5th Floor, Intramuros, Manila.

The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) has commenced its field surveys for its research titled “Organizing for Equality: Study on Women and Gender Mainstreaming in Labor Unions in Philippine Key Services Subsectors,” starting with Regions III (Pampanga), and XI (Davao)."

The said research, with support from the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) Philippines, aims to ascertain the state of women’s participation and the integration of gender and women’s issues in unions in certain services subsectors in the country.
