The global economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has led to large-scale returns of migrant workers to their origin countries. The trend looks shocking but not surprising, as migrant populations in host countries usually bear the heavier brunt of any global crisis (Taran, 2009). As a result, major labor-sending countries continue to face domestic pressures on absorbing the sudden wave of returning migrants, many of whom could not afford to be economically idle amidst these precarious times.
