Last May 21, 2018, the Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) attended the meeting of the National Child Labor Committee (NCLC) Knowledge and Advocacy Sub-Committee meeting hosted by the Bureau of Workers with Special Concerns (BWSC) at the Federation of Free Workers Bldg. in Malate, Manila.

In preparation for the 2018 Celebration of World Day Against Child Labor on June 23, the ILS committed to organize and man the Hugot Batang Malaya booth, together with the National Youth Commission and the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC). The booth will allow the children participants to express their childhood dreams and thoughts on child labor through artworks, poems, and slogan. There will also be a face and hand painting booth where children can have their face/hand painted with pinwheel or #1M BM (Batang Malaya (BM) logo. ILS was also tasked to create and reproduce the map/stamp card for the children who will participate in the interactive stations.

The Batang Malaya is an NCLC campaign that aims at a child labor-free Philippines, targeting 1 million labor free children by 2025. NCLC is tasked to formulate policies, guidelines, framework, national action plans, and programs/projects as may be necessary for the effective enforcement of Republic Act No. 9231.
