Quezon City – In line with the national observance of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women, the Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) – Gender and Development Committee organized a training titled “SELF SAFETY: Self-Defense Strategies for Personal Safety” on 28 November 2024, at the ILS Conference Room in Quezon City.
The training was facilitated by Club de Jiu-Jitsu Philippines, led by instructors Ms. Annie Ramirez, Mr. Wallen Del Rosario, Mr. Von Cedrick Cunanan, Mr. Ivan Torre, and Mr. Adrian Villanueva. The team shared invaluable personal safety strategies, including risk assessment, situational awareness, and practical self-defense techniques.
The session aimed to equip ILS employees with essential skills to navigate real-life situations confidently. By combining de-escalation strategies with easy-to-apply self-defense techniques, the training enhanced participants’ physical readiness and ability to assess and manage potential threats effectively.
Through the training session, ILS reaffirmed its commitment to taking a proactive stance in fostering a workplace culture that prioritizes safety, equips employees with essential skills, and directly addresses the critical need to combat violence and ensure personal security.
The 18-Day Campaign to End VAW supports the Philippine government’s goal of protecting the human rights of women and girls by upholding its commitment to address all forms of gender-based violence as enshrined in the 1987 Constitution.
By virtue of Republic Act 10398 or the Act declaring November 25 of every year as the National Consciousness Day for the Elimination of VAWC, government agencies are mandated to raise awareness on the problem of violence and the elimination of all forms of violence against women and girls.
