Quezon City - The Institute for Labor Studies participated in public seminars hosted by the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) focusing on climate change, disaster risk management, and women in the agriculture sector on August 1 and 14, 2024, via hybrid modality.

ILS represented by Arianne Ishreen C. Bucar and Michelle Ann A. Ruiz attended the hybrid seminar of PIDS in partnership with the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) titled, “Metrics Matter: Assessing Progress towards Women’s Empowerment in Agriculture and Beyond.” The seminar tackled international agricultural projects, focusing on assessing how projects promote women's empowerment and gender parity using various metrics and tools such as the Women’s Empowerment in Agriculture Index and the Women’s Metric for National Statistical Systems. Presenters were former PIDS President Dr. Celia Reyes, PIDS Senior Research Fellow Dr. Jose Ramon Albert, IFPRI Senior Research Fellow Dr. Agnes Quisumbing, and Dr. Hazel Malapit, IFPRI Senior Research Coordinator.

Ms. Ruiz also attended the forum, “Shaping the Future of Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management in the Philippines.” The forum featured relevant studies of PIDs and partner institutions on the United Nations Loss and Damage Fund and L&D accounting in the Philippines, beneficial use and conservation of water resources, and sustainable infrastructure planning and development. Presenters were PIDS Senior Research Fellow Dr. Sonny N. Domingo, Atty. Rebyanne Giselle C. Diaz, Head of the Adjudication and Litigation of the Water Rights Division of the National Water Resources Board; and Asst. Prof. Samantha Geraldine De los Santos of the University of the Philippines Los Baños, College of Public Affairs and Development. The studies in summary explored the complexities, initiatives, and best practices in managing climate and disasters at the local, national, and international levels.
