ILS Executive Director Jeanette T. Damo attended a one and half day event on Investing on Care Economy jointly organized by Asian Development Bank (ADB), International Labour Organization (ILO) and United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) held last 29-30 at the ADB Conference Hall.
The first day event is an international forum on development initiatives to address the decent work concerns of workers involved in providing care services including unpaid work and best practices of care services at the local level.
The second day is a half day Working Session on Strengthening the Care Economy in Asia and the Pacific, organized by the International Labor Organization on September 30, 2023, at Marco Polo Hotel, Ortigas.
Attended by tripartite leaders in the Asia Pacific Region, the working session was a head start for focusing attention and regional cooperation to address unpaid care work.
The participants discussed policy challenges and provided recommendations to champion the basic principles of accessibility, affordability, quality, and decent work in childcare and other priority areas within the care economy.
The said events are part of the preparatory activities for the International Labour Conference next year which will tackle decent work in the care economy.
Joining Executive Director Damo are policy researchers Frances Camille Dumalaog and Arianne Ishreen Bucar from the Workers Welfare Research Division.
