Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) staff Czarina Cortez and Ronell Delerio joined “In Her Shoes 3: Solidarity Walk for Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment” organized by the National Youth Commission (NYC) in celebration of the National Women's Month last March 7, 2016.
Participants to the event, with males as main attendees, were required to wear high heeled shoes during the walk. NYC Chairperson Gio Tingson and employees led the walk followed by participants from the Armed Forces, Fire Protection, Boys Scouts, ILS, and other national agencies and youth organizations. The annual solidarity walk started in Quezon Memorial Circle East Avenue Gate and ended in Quezon Avenue Gate for a short ceremony.
The Solidarity Walk for Gender Equality was first held in 2014 to raise public awareness on gender-based issues concerning the modern Filipino woman as well as to harness public support for efforts to advance gender equality in the country.
As part of its Women’s Month Celebration, ILS has also planned activities such as the presentation of a study on low skilled migrants in partnership with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration and the conduct of the public forum “SOGIE x Decent Work: Inspiring Actions for Workplace Inclusion and Empowerment for LGBT Workers.”
