‘TWAS A FAIR to remember.

For the first time, the work of the Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) was recognized by its peers. It was adjudged third best research fair exhibit booth during the “Development Policy Research Month Research Fair” that was held from September 24 to 26 at the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) in Makati City.

While the event did not match the drama of the classic film, it has shown the growing interest of the public towards labor and employment research.

“As the policy research arm of the Department of Labor and Employment, we actively participate in initiatives like this, to showcase work done by our research teams and by the different research groups of the Department,” said Executive Director Cynthia R. Cruz.

The ILS, the policy research and advocacy arm of the Department of Labor and Employment, is one of the twenty nine research agencies participating in the 10th Development Policy Research Month Fair, which happens every five years. This year’s theme is Regional Economic Integration and Inclusive Growth.

Other winners during the fair were the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and the University of the Philippines Center for Integrative and Development Studies (UP CIDS).

Distributed during the fair were research publications of the ILS on employment, rights at work, social protection and social dialogue. Development reports done by the Institute were also given to the public for free which includes the Philippine Labor and Employment Plan (LEP) 2011-2016 and the LEP First Year Progress Report.

“One of the driving forces that compelled us to participate in the PIDS Research Fair was our eagerness to make our research outputs more accessible for the good and benefit of the public. We felt that more people should be informed and made aware not only of what we do at the ILS but also of the latest and numerous initiatives and actions by the Department on labor and employment in the country,” Director Cruz explained.

The ILS regularly participates in the 3-day research fair as part of its advocacy campaign to spread awareness about its labor and employment policy studies. For more information on its studies and to secure copies of the ILS recent studies on labor and visit the website at www.ils.dole.gov.ph or contact the Advocacy and Publications Division at 5273490 / 5273447.
The ILS was created in July 1987 by virtue of Executive Order No. 257. Since its creation the Institute has always been at the forefront of labor and employment policy research and advocacy providing strategic policy research for the Department of Labor and Employment. ###
