Manila – The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS), through its Gender and Development (GAD) Committee, hosted the “Training-Conference on Gender Mainstreaming in Research and Policymaking” on 20 June 2017 at the iLearn Conference Room, DOLE Building, Intramuros, Manila.

The training was conducted pursuant to the Institute’s 2017 GAD Plan. The activities primarily sought to capacitate the members of the DOLE Inter–Agency Committee on Research and Statistical Matters (IAC-RSM) and their representatives with key tools and approaches to integrate gender perspectives in research agenda and policymaking processes.

The first part of the conference allowed participants to learn about "Practicing Gender Mainstreaming Through Multiple Lens" from resource persons Rhodora Abano of the Center for Migrant Advocacy (CMA), Dr. Jean S. Encinas–Franco of the University of the Philippines-Diliman, and Assistant Secretary Percival Cendana of the National Youth Commission. This was followed by the talk of Dr. Rowena Laguilles-Timog of UP-Diliman on “Understanding Labor and Employment Issues from a Gender Perspective.”

ILS OIC-Executive Director Atty. Mary Grace L. Riguer presented the 2017 IAC-RSM DOLE Research Agenda and discussed how gender can be mainstreamed in the DOLE Research Roadmap.

The afternoon’s session was helmed by Dr. Nathalie Africa–Verceles, also of UP-Diliman who discussed the topic “Integrating Feminist Research in Labor and Employment Concepts, Principles and Approaches.”

The training was capped by a workshop which engaged the participants to come up with possible researches that incorporated what have been discussed.
