Manila, PH – In celebration of Women’s Month, The Institute for Labor Studies Gender and Development Committee (ILS-GAD) held a forum and special screening of the film “Sunday Beauty Queen,” on March 28, 2017 from 1:00-7:00pm at the Cinematheque Center Manila, Ermita, Manila.
The forum’s theme, “Humanizing Labor Migration: A Forum and Film Screening on Women Domestic Workers and Sustainable Development,” focuses on the persistent lack of inclusive opportunities in the local economy and labor market making overseas employment a livelihood option for Filipino women.
The event is in partnership with the human rights advocacy group DAKILA, a Philippine Collective for Modern Heroism composed of a group of artists, students, and individuals who are committed to working together to spark social consciousness formation towards social change.
“Sunday Beauty Queen” is a 2016 Philippine documentary film which follows a group of expatriate domestic workers in Hong Kong as they prepare to take part in an annual beauty pageant.
