The Institute for Labor Studies Executive Director Ahmma Charisma Lobrin-Satumba emphasized the contribution of women to both global and local employment and discussed a way of increasing their labor force participation during her guesting in the radio/TV show Oh My Job in Super Radyo DZBB on 27 March 2021.

Host and former OWWA Administrator Arnel Ignacio engaged Exec. Dir. Lobrin-Satumba in the said topic involving women participation in labor force. She acknowledged the existing dilemma generally for women whether they should work or stay home to take care of the family.

“Dito (sa Pilipinas), 46% ang labor force participation rate ng kababaihan. If more employers will allow their employees who are married and or with children to do telecommute or work-from-home, ay palagay po namen ay mas tataas pa ang bilang ng kababaihan sa workforce or ang rate ng kanilang labor force participation,” explained Lobrin-Satumba.

She also pointed out the huge economic contribution of women citing that in 2016 alone, the $600 B remittance worldwide came from women migrant workers.

For the Philippines, Exec. Dir. Lobrin-Satumba cited the enactment of Republic Act 9710 or the Magna Carta of Women in 2009 as a major gain for women as it seeks to eliminate discrimination against women by recognizing, protecting, fulfilling and promoting the rights of Filipino women, especially those in marginalized sectors. She said that it also expanded the work opportunities for women in the fields of police force, forensics and medico-legal, legal services, and social work services, increasing as well the number of women occupying third level or managerial positions in the government.

She capped her discussion by thanking the radio show for being an active platform to discuss key and important issues involving women.
