Manila - Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Undersecretary for Labor Relations, Policy and International Affairs Cluster Atty. Benedicto Ernesto R. Bitonio Jr. presided over the oath-taking ceremony of newly appointed employees of the Institute for Labor Studies held at the DOLE Central Office.
Senior Labor and Employment Officers (LEO) sworn into office were Jan Danielle R. Bondad assigned to the Labor and Social Relations Research Division, Loren Art S. Cayabyab for the Employment Research Division, and Michelle Ann A. Ruiz for the Advocacy and Publications Division.
Newly promoted employees of ILS also took their oath of office, namely, Frances Camille G. Dumalaog, from Senior LEO to Supervising LEO, and Athena Mari E. Son and Arianne Ishreen C. Bucar, both from LEO III to Senior LEO.
This was the first time Undersecretary Bitonio presided over the oath-taking of the new and promoted employees of ILS. For his message, Undersecretary Bitonio underscored the need for public servants to have empathy.
“Empathy is important. It is not technical capacity alone that one must have, but also the ability to see others’ perspectives and to consider people’s interests and how these can contribute to shaping policies at the Department of Labor and Employment,” Undersecretary Bitonio emphasized.
“Let us find ways to contribute to the overall mandate of the Department of Labor and Employment. Our perspectives should not be limited only to what we see inside the Institute, but should be broadened by what we see outside,” he added.
At the end of his message, he congratulated the newly appointed employees who took their oath of office and gave them a warm welcome to the Institute and the DOLE family. “I wish you all fruitful years not only by which you can serve the country but also by which you can have a sense of self-fulfillment,” he said.
The oath-taking was witnessed by ILS OIC-Executive Director III Jeanette T. Damo, Deputy Executive Director Atty. Mary Grace L. Riguer-Teodosio, ILS management committee members and fellow ILS employees.
