Manila, Philippines – Employees of the Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) joined the nation in celebrating Pride Month this June 2019.

June is officially celebrated by the LGBT community worldwide as Pride Month and is an annual celebration of the LGBTIQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer) community worldwide as a way of protesting against discrimination and violence. It also promotes their dignity, equal rights, self-affirmation and is a way of increasing society’s awareness on the issues they face.

The said event, spearheaded by the ILS Gender and Development Committee, was marked by a discussion on AIDS/HIV awareness and LGBT concerns. They also conducted a poll:  "Kapag sinabi sa iyo ng katrabaho mo na s'ya ay isang miyembro ng LGBT, ano ang mararamdaman mo?"(When a co-worker confides in you that he/she is a member of the LGBT, what would you feel?”) It also coincided with the monthly socials of the Institute for its employees who were celebrating their birthdays.

The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) is the policy research and advocacy arm of the Department of Labor and Employment. For more information on this story, please contact the Advocacy and Publications Division at 527-3590
