Cebu City, Cebu - The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) participated in the “Training Workshop on the Development of Information, Education, Communication (IEC) Materials on Child Labor,” led by the Bureau of Workers with Special Concerns from July 16 to 17, at Cebu Parklane, International Hotel, Cebu City, Cebu.

ILS representatives Marcos S. Ursua and Diether B. Navarosa of the Workers Welfare Research Division participated in the training. During the workshop, ILS representatives presented an output titled “Siklo,” which was critiqued by fellow participants.

The training workshop aims to capacitate participants in developing effective IEC materials on child labor to raise the public’s awareness of child laborers in the country. Topics on media production including pitching and storyboarding, cinematography, video production, video editing, and post-production were discussed. The guidelines for reviewing advocacy materials and ethical guidelines for producing and publishing advocacy videos were also presented by Michelle Robin-Bascal, Technical Consultant for Advocacy and Communication of Project SPEAK.

Also present at the activity were representatives from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Information and Publication Service, National Capital Region, and Regional Offices I, II, III, and VIII. The activity was co-presented by the European Union in the Philippines, ChildFund Philippines, Project SPEAK, Ha Uman Association, Inc., and Kaanib Foundation, Inc. Batches 1 and 3 of the activity happened from July 11 to 12, and 18 to 19, in South Cotabato and Cebu City, respectively.
