The Institute for Labor Studies participated in a two-day workshop on “Capacity Building on Strategic Compliance” as part of the International Labour Organization (ILO) project “Building the Capacity of the Philippine Labour Inspectorate” held on February 22-23 in Bai Hotel in Mandaue City, Cebu.

The workshop is in response to the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) implemented reforms to improve its labor inspectorate system, in response to a 2009 ILO Technical Audit of the Philippines Labor Inspectorate, which DOLE requested. Reforms started with the adoption of the Rules on the Labor Laws Compliance System (LLCS) which introduced more active engagement of workers and employers at the enterprise level during inspection, and sought to integrate a developmental approach to labor inspection.

The said workshop likewise sought to orient social partners on the new salient points of the inspection rules under DOLE Department Order 183-17.
