As part of its efforts to bring research closer and more accessible to the reading public via the Internet, the Institute for Labor Studies (ILS), will unveil its new website on labor and employment research that is linked to Facebook this month.

"We decided to come up with a new ILS website that is visibly linked to social networks, with a crisp layout, youthful design and relevant contents which would capture the attention of the research public, especially the youth, in exploring labor and employment issues and concerns,” said ILS Executive Director Cynthia R. Cruz.

The ILS website may be accessed at www.ils.dole.gov.ph. Its Facebook page is facebook.com/ils.dole.

As the policy research and advocacy arm of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), the Institute is tasked to come up with some 15 policy researches and 200 policy briefs each year.

The ILS is the policy research and advocacy arm of the DOLE. It was created in July 1987 by virtue of Executive Order No. 257. Since its creation the Institute has always been at the forefront of labor and employment policy research and advocacy providing strategic policy research for the Labor Department.

"A lot of work has gone into the development of the new site to make sure that researchers can find a variety of information resources on labor and employment and navigate smoothly between the diverse areas of research in this field,” said Cruz.

“The bulk of the work that we do are collaborations of ideas with our tripartite partners and stakeholders. We would like to share that information for labor and employment policy and advocacy. The site is designed in such a way that would cater to the information needs and demands of the public, especially our tripartite stakeholders, namely government, business and labor; and the academe,” said Cruz.

Transparency @ Work

The new website, also serves as the Institute's response to the President’s call for greater government transparency and citizen accountability. The site features financial information as required by the Department of Budget Management mandating all government websites to bear a Transparency Seal, containing required information on budgetary planning and procurement.

It also features working papers and research briefs on employment, rights at work, social protection and social dialogue. It contains reports and proceedings of various forums, seminars and dialogues organized by the Institute over the past three years.

The ILS was created in July 1987 by virtue of Executive Order No. 257. Since its creation the Institute has always been at the forefront of labor and employment policy research and advocacy providing strategic policy research for the Department of Labor and Employment. ###
