Quezon City - The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) successfully convened a consultation meeting with the members of the Maritime Industry Tripartite Council (MITC) at the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC).
The meeting served as a platform for productive and substantive discussions among stakeholders on the drafting of the implementing rules pursuant to Section 59 of Republic Act No. 12021, otherwise known as the Magna Carta of Filipino Seafarers.
The said Magna Carta was enacted in September 2024 and its IRR was signed last Wednesday, January 7, 2024.
This initiative underscores DOLE's commitment to fostering inclusive dialogue with the maritime sector, ensuring that the rules will effectively address the concerns of Filipino seafarers while promoting their welfare and rights in line with the Magna Carta's provisions.
The consultation-meeting is a key step toward ensuring attainment of high standards of protection, safety, and fair treatment for Filipino seafarers locally and across the globe.
The Institute for Labor Studies served as the technical secretariat of this activity and has been on top of the consultations since the formulation of the IRR.
