More than 2500 students and career guidance counselors will gather for a campus lecture on Decent Work in Cebu.  The event marks the final stop of the “Balik Tanaw, Bagong Pananaw” Diamond Lecture Series of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) scheduled on October 9 at the Cebu Doctors University Auditorium.

“Marangal na Trabaho, Ano Ba Yun?” is the theme for this leg of the Diamond Lecture Series which is part of the year-long celebration of the 75th Anniversary of DOLE.  The first nationwide campus tour of the Department, it educates students on the lessons from the history of DOLE and what the world of work is all about.

“Globalization has changed the world of work so rapidly. We want our future workforce to be equipped with the tools they need to face this reality,” said Institute for Labor Studies Executive Director Cynthia Cruz, Diamond Lecture Series Project Coordinator.  “With the lecture series, we go to campuses all over the Philippines, telling students about the history of DOLE and what to expect when they join the workforce.

Speaking on Decent Work will be DOLE Secretary Marianito Roque who will be the main lecturer.  Joining him as discussants are representatives from the local government of Mandaue and tripartite partners of DOLE.

“Since 2001, the Philippines has adopted the Decent Work Common Agenda outlining projects and activities that will help workers, employers and government, achieve the four pillars of Decent Work which include respect for rights at work, promotion of employment, social protection for all and continuing social dialogue,”said Director Cruz.

Balik-Tanaw, Bagong Pananaw will also showcase the Jobsolutely-DOLE Career and Job Fair, meetings of the Regional Tripartite Industrial Peace Council (RTIPC) and the Decent Work Media Forum.

Jobsolutely DOLE will feature a job fair for local employment. The series of career talks, which will feature top human resource executives in Cebu, will provide tips to graduating students on resume writing and how to survive their first 90 days at work. National talk show Amerika Atbp will be featuring a talk on career options abroad. The RTIPC will meet to agree on a decent work plan for the region. While the media forum will orient the members of the press on the activities of the DOLE related to decent work and its More than Jobs campaign.
