The Roundtable Discussion on the Working Conditions of Workers in the Informal Economy: A Focus on the Construction Industry was conducted on 9 December 2011 at the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC), Diliman, Quezon City. The initiative is in line with the goal to enhance social protection for vulnerable workers as a strategy to attain inclusive growth under the Philippine Labor and Employment Plan 2011 – 2016.

In line with the unveiling of the Aquino Administration’s Philippine Development Plan (PDP 2011-2016) and the Labor Department’s Philippine Labor and Employment Plan (LEP 2011-2016), the 3rd ILS Strategic Conversations centered on the attainment of inclusive growth, especially in the context of the labor market, gainful and productive employment and the welfare of the Filipino worker.

Given the astounding potentials it possesses in terms of driving economic growth, the tourism sector has been touted by both government and business as a winner industry. During the Partnerships in Governance Forum on Tourism with the European Chamber of Commerce, discussions between DOLE and the Tourism industry centered on the potentials of the tourism industry in terms of fueling tourism arrivals, attracting investments, fueling businesses, creating jobs and spreading opportunities.

The Creative Industry is just an upcoming and upstart industry and yet it possesses so much promise and potentials in terms of investment possibilities, employment projections and economic opportunities. The PGF on Creative Industries organized with the European Chamber of Commerce sought to enable industry experts and practitioners and government policymakers to come together on how the country can capitalize on the bright prospects of the Creative Industries, particularly in job generation.

In 2011, the DOLE together with the Climate Change Commission, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the National Youth Commission, convened the 1st Philippine Green Jobs Conference in Manila, together with its tripartite partners, Employers Confederation of the Philippines, Federation of Free Workers and Trade Union Congress of the Philippines.

OBJECTIVE OF HERITAGE RESEARCH AND ADVOCACY AWARENESS VISIT:

As part of DOLE’s commitment to the Philippine Program Against Child Labor (PPACL), and in celebration of World Day Against Child Labor, the Institute for Labor Studies held a policy dialogue on the theme: MAPANGANIB NA PAGGAWA, BAWAL SA BATA. The main objective of the forum was to stir-up discussion among stakeholders on hazardous work for children and deepen understanding on the emerging issues crucial in addressing child labor in the country. The forum gathered more than 70 participants from the PPACL network led by the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP), Federation of Free Workers (FFW), Teachers Inc, Visayan Forum, ABK2, SUMAPI, Department of Education, Council for the Working Children, and Philippine National Police.
