The new Japanese Labor Attache to the Philippines, Mr. Masami Hirata, has paid a courtesy call on ILS Executive Director Cynthia Cruz.

At the meeting held at the Executive Director’s Office, Director Cynthia Cruz congratulated Labor Attache Masami Hirata on his appointment, and discussed ideas on further strengthening the partnership between the Institute for Labor Studies and the Office of the Labor Attache of Japan.

At the meeting, outgoing Labor Attache Haruhiro Jono discussed work that his office has done with the Institute for Labor Studies. Among these collaborative projects was the Green Jobs Asia Project with the International Labour Organization.

Labor Attache Jono will be returning to the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare in Tokyo, Japan.  He served as labor attaché to the Philippines for three years.

The ILS is the policy research and advocacy arm of the Department of Labor and Employment. It was created in July 1987 by virtue of Executive Order No. 257. Since its creation the Institute has always been at the forefront of labor and employment policy research and advocacy providing strategic policy research on employment, rights at work, social protection and social dialogue for the Department of Labor and Employment.
