Manila - The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) hosted the recently concluded Follow-up Training on Assessing and Addressing the Effects of Trade on Employment Workshop of the International Labor Organization-European Union (ILO-EU) Project on Strengthening the Impact of Trade on Employment in the Philippines (STRENGTHEN) last August 24-25 at the iLearn Conference Room of the ILS in Intramuros, Manila.

The two-day workshop sponsored by the ILO is intended primarily for development practitioners, policy analysts, policy advisors, researchers affiliated with the relevant ministries and the social partners of the ILO with the aim of helping trade policies to not only support employment generation but also help ensure the promotion of decent work in the Philippines.

The said technical workshop was a follow-up to the Technical Tripartite Workshop on Assessing the Effects of Trade on Employment in the Philippines, which was held last March 2017 in Makati City. It built on the previous technical knowledge and skills enhanced and focused on how the Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) framework can be used and utilized to assess the employment impacts of trade on the Philippine automotive, garments and coconut sectors.

The workshop was headed by Dr. Philip Arnold TuaƱo, Assistant Professor and Associate Chair at Department of Economics from the Ateneo de Manila University. He was assisted by Ms. Marjorie S. Muyrong, Lecturer at the Department of Economics of the Ateneo de Manila University.

The ILO, represented by Mr. Bryan Millares Balco, National Project Coordinator for STRENGTHEN, expressed that they would continue their partnership with the Department, particularly with the Institute for Labor Studies.
