MAKATI CITY – Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) Senior Labor and Employment Officer Ms. Chelsea Pineda presented the key findings of the ILS research paper titled "Impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the Labor Market" on 15 April 2025 during the launch of NaviGate, an AI-powered chatbot developed by the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) with support from the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITCILO).
In her presentation, Ms. Pineda highlighted the concerns and experiences of employers in the IT-BPM, banking & finance, and manufacturing sectors upon AI adoption. These include high financial costs of AI deployment, data privacy, and cybersecurity–issues that are associated with the digital nature of AI and reliance on sensitive data for building, training and deploying AI models.
For the employees, Ms. Pineda also discussed the potential increase in workload following AI adoption, job security, and the use of AI in decision-making processes. These issues reflect the broader stakeholder concerns surrounding the need on upskilling, data privacy, and ethical and responsible use of AI in the workplace while also emphasizing the importance of maximizing the economic benefits of AI can bring.
Additionally, Ms. Pineda underscored the need for a human-centered approach to AI adoption to promote balance between technological adoption and workforce preservation.
NaviGate will be accessible to ECOP members on a 24/7 basis which will handle answers to frequently asked questions on labor laws, regulations, and workplace standards.
