The Institute of Labor Studies (ILS), headed by OIC-Deputy Executive Director Brenalyn A. Peji, attended the 2nd Area-Wide Labor Laws Compliance System Summit last 23-24 June 2016 at El Cielito Hotel, Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

DOLE officials and employees, Labor Laws Compliance Officers (LLCOs), gathered for the 2-day event organized by the Bureau of Working Conditions (BWC) in partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO), Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC), and DOLE-Regional Office IV-A.  The summit’s theme, “Enhancing Strong Partnership with Stakeholders + Continuous Capacity Building of Implementers: The Key to Sustain Labor Laws Compliance” underscores the Department of Labor and Empkoyment’s advocacy to strengthen tripartism and voluntary compliance among employers, employees, and the government.

Participants were welcomed by DOLE Regional Director Ma. Zenaida A. Angara-Campita.

Discussed during the 2-day event were: (a) the Overview of Department Order No. 131-B series of 2016; (b) Equivalency to Occupational Safety and Health Standards; (c) LLCS Accomplishments; (d) LLCS Roadmap 2016-2022; (e) Overview of ILO Convention Nos. 81 and 129, (f) Presentation of the Proposed Gap Analysis on ILO Convention Nos. 81 and 129; and (g) Working arrangements in the industries such as healthcare, construction, manufacturing, academe, economic zones, export processing zones. The topics were discussed by resource persons from the BWC, ILO, and key industry representatives.
