Manila – The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) gears up for its second webinar under its 2021 Advocacy Webinar series with the theme, “Resilience in Stride - Road to Employment Recovery and Adapting to the New Normal.”

Co-organized by the Employment Research Division and the Advocacy and Publications Division, the webinar, “Introduction to Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) Modelling as a Labor Policy Analytical Tool,” is slated for online broadcast via Zoom on August 6.

The webinar aims to introduce CGE modeling to the Department of Labor and Employment’s technical employees and to facilitate discussion on the modeling’s potential as an analytical tool toward crafting better labor and employment policies for the Department.

Dr. Philip Arnold P. Tuaño, Chair of Ateneo de Manila University’s Department of Economics, and CGE modelling specialist, is set to discuss the topic: “Introduction to CGE Modelling as Labor Policy Analytical Tool.”

In CGE modeling, a system of equations is constructed based on existing economic theory to describe the economy, and more important, the economic behavioral patterns of firms, households, and the government. Simulations of different scenario settings that reflect possible changes to the economy brought about by the introduction of new policies, changes in existing policies, or presence of an economic or political shock, can be run in a CGE model to assess the potential effects of such changes.
