QUEZON CITY – In support of the 2026 World Day Against Child Labor (WDACL), the Institute for Labor Studies reaffirms its commitment to helping eradicate child labor through research, advocacy, and collaborative action, in line with the directive of Department of Labor and Employment Secretary Francis N. Tolentino to strengthen the protection and welfare of Filipino workers and their families.
Carrying this year’s theme, “Ikaw, Ako, Tayo: Sama-samang Pagkilos para sa Batang Malaya,” the Institute joined the global observance with the launch of a social media campaign in support of the advocacy efforts of Batang Malaya PH and the National Council Against Child Labor (NCACL). The campaign aimed at raising public awareness on the legal protections that safeguard children against child labor and other forms of abuse and exploitation.
Central to this year’s advocacy campaign was a series of educational fact cards explaining key provisions of Republic Act No. 9231, otherwise known as the Special Protection of Children Against Child Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act. The series highlighted that the worst forms of child labor, including prostitution and pornography, are grave offenses that endanger the health, safety, and morality of children.
Beyond its digital advocacy, the ILS also fostered solidarity involving ILS personnel, interns, and MegaOne Building staff. Participants flashed red cards as a symbol of their collective stand against child labor and their shared commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of every Filipino child.
Through these initiatives, the ILS emphasized that ending child labor requires a collective and whole-of-nation approach. The Institute remains committed to generating evidence, supporting policy development, and strengthening public awareness toward a future where every child is free from exploitation and given the opportunity to reach their full potential.
