Manila – The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) hosted the information dissemination for the report, “Fairwork Philippines Ratings 2023: Protecting Worker Health, Safety, and Security in the Philippine Platform Economy,” by the Fairwork Philippines project on September 27, at the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Command Center, Intramuros, Manila.

The Institute invited Dr. Cheryll Ruth Soriano, Principal Investigator, and Atty. Javvy R. Gamboa, Legal Consultant of Fairwork Philippines, to present the overview of the ratings last year, and the policy recommendations of the Fairwork Philippines Ratings for 2023.

The event was attended by DOLE services, bureaus, and attached agencies relevant to the advancement of decent work and workers’ welfare in digital platforms. The activity served as a venue to discuss Fairwork’s findings, provide policy recommendations, and identify potential areas for collaboration toward improving the working conditions of platform workers.

The Fairwork project is an initiative of the Oxford Internet Institute at the University of Oxford, and the WZB Berlin Social Science Centre. The project aims to monitor and evaluate the working conditions of workers in digital platforms in the observance of the principles of fair work such as decent pay, safe working conditions, fair contracts, impartial management, and the right of workers to organize.

Fairwork’s research areas include location-based platform work, cloud work, and artificial intelligence systems. To date, the Fairwork project has a global network of researchers in 37 countries, across five continents.
