Manila, Philippines - The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) hosted the Department of Labor and Employment’s post-Independence Day flag raising ceremony last August 22, 2016 at the Local Governance Learning Center (LGLC), Blas Ople Hall in Intramuros, Manila.

The event was attended by DOLE officials headed by then DOLE Acting Secretary Joel Maglunsod and OIC-Undersecretary Joji Aragon.

In line with the celebration of National Heroes Day, two short video presentations, with the theme “Your deeds are your own Monuments”, were shown. The AVPs showcased fast facts on the celebration of National Heroes Day, as well as a special feature on modern day heroes.

In his keynote message, Acting Secretary Joel Maglunsod echoed President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s mandate of eliminating illegal contractualization. He also highlighted the release of Department Order (DO) 162 last July 25, 2016, which suspended the registration of new applicants as contractors or sub-contractors under Department Order 18-A. The said DO is consistent with the policy directives to strictly implement and enforce the worker’s rights to security of tenure.
