The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) held a forum titled “ Harnessing Opportunities and Mitigating Risks: A Policy Forum on Trade and Employment” held last 24 July 2018 at ILS iLearn Conference Room in Intramuros, Manila.

The event sought to provide an overview of concepts related to the field of international trade particularly focusing on the different international trade policies adopted by the Philippines. It also aimed to familiarize participants with the different mechanisms enforced to promote the welfare of domestic industries amidst international trade.

Resource persons for the forum were the following: Assistant Director Angelo Salvador M. Benedictos, Department of Trade and Industry – Bureau of International Trade Relations; Ms. Marilou P. Mendoza, Chairperson, Tariff Commission (TC); and Mr. Bryan M. Balco, National Project Coordinator for Strengthening the Impact of Trade on Employment in the Philippines (STRENGTHEN), International Labour Organization.

Participants in the proposed policy forum included DOLE Senior Officials, representatives from various DOLE bureaus, services, and attached agencies, and ILS technical staff.
