The session was facilitated by ILS’ Labor and Employment Officer II Marc Raphael A. Peñaredondo, a graduate of Basic and Advanced Photography Class of the Federation of Philippine Photographers Foundation, Inc. (FPPF).

In her opening remarks, Deputy Executive Director Mary Grace L. Riguer emphasized that “in our researches, we don’t only write words, we also share images concerning our studies. Photography is all about perspective; it can help a person deliver his/her message by using photos.”

Mr. Peñaredondo provided a lecture about the basic elements and techniques for taking photographs. A few tips were also given during the visual presentation to help ILS staff in improving their outputs in photography. A model photoshoot demonstration was also done featuring Leslie Arambulo and Reymond Halili, former student interns of the ILS. Also discussed were the proper care and handling of cameras and storage devices, ethical issues, and the importance of photography for the Institute.

Executive Director Cynthia R. Cruz welcomed the learning session, saying that “photography can be used by the Institute for its products to add creativity, making our products feel and look more sophisticated.” She also highlighted the science and skill of taking photos as compared to writing research papers. “As photography means writing with light to capture excellent images, we as writers should also exert effort in our work to produce excellent research products.”
