QUEZON CITY – In line with the directive of Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Francis N. Tolentino to promote social justice and uphold the welfare and dignity of vulnerable sectors, the Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) participated in the National Senior Citizen’s Summit on 23 July 2026, held at Aberdeen Court, Quezon City.

Organized by the National Commission for Senior Citizens, the Summit aimed to facilitate learning exchanges, policy discussions, and sharing of innovative practices that promote active, productive, and meaningful aging.

During the breakout session, “Promoting the Silver Economy: Livelihood and Enterprise Opportunities for Senior Citizens,” ILS, represented by Ms. Chelsea Nicole Pineda, underscored the importance of strengthening government support for older persons through skills development, lifelong learning, and livelihood opportunities. She highlighted the need for policies that expand economic opportunities for older persons while ensuring that these remain responsive to their health, capabilities, and evolving needs.

She likewise emphasized that empowering older persons to remain economically active can help unlock the country’s growing silver economy while encouraging healthy, active, and dignified aging.

Atty. Jerommel Gabriel of the Bureau of Workers with Special Concerns (BWSC) also highlighted DOLE's programs for older persons under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP).
