Manila – The Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) Executive Director Ahmma Charisma Lobrin Satumba was recently interviewed by Ronda Pilipinas host Mr. Lawrence Tanjoco about home and internet-based jobs as among the best alternatives for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).

Exec. Director Satumba spoke about the alternative work opportunities specially for some 300,000 OFWs who were displaced due to COVID as highlighted during the webinar co-organized by the Institute with the DOLE Philippine Overseas Labor & Office (POLO) in Singapore titled “Paano Maging OFW na Hindi Umaalis ng Pinas? How You can Become an OFW Without Leaving Your Family?” She said the Overseas Filipino Workers can transition into becoming Online Filipino Workers. She highlighted the fact that various jobs are available online and these available opportunities cater to various skill sets – which dispels the fact that one does not have to be an IT graduate/professional to engage as a virtual professional.

Exec. Director Satumba also cited salary competitiveness, red flag cautions, and up skilling for those who are interested in engaging in virtual careers.

The topic of the said webinar was featured by various national media outfits such as The Philippine Daily Inquirer, Manila Bulletin, Daily Tribune, and regional publication SunStar Pampanga. The national government’s Philippine Information Agency also picked up on the release from POLO Singapore.

Webinar resource speaker Ann Kristine Peñaredondo re-emphasized that “virtual career allows one to work at the comfort of home, earn different currencies and serve different businesses.”

“Virtual careers are alternative options for those who lost their jobs due to COVID-19 as well as those who do not want to work away from their families,” DOLE-POLO Singapore Labor Attaché Saul De Vries said in his opening remarks for the said webinar.
