Manila – In line with the celebration of the 2019 National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week, the Institute for Labor Studies (ILS) together with the Bureau of Workers with Special Concerns (BWSC), conducted a “Workshop on the Disability Inclusiveness Governance Framework of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)” last July 23 at the Bayleaf Hotel in Intramuros, Manila.

The results of the activity will primarily serve as input to the development of the Department’s Disability Inclusive Governance Framework. The formulation of a disability inclusiveness framework will help ensure that DOLE’s programs and services are accessible to PWDs.

The workshop intended to orient the DOLE focal persons on the existing legislations related to the promotion of the rights and welfare of PWDs, and also to identity bottlenecks in the implementation of PWD related laws.

The National Council on Disability Affairs discussed RA 7277 “Magna Carta of Disabled Person” and Batas Pambansa Bilang 344 “Act to Enhance the Mobility of Disabled Persons.”

UPNCPAG-Center for Local and Regional Governance also presented their study “Enabling the Disabled: An Assessment of Local Mechanisms for Programs and Services for Persons with Disabilities (PWD)-Focus on the Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO).”
