This was the call of the Institute for Labor Studies, at its recent offering during the Department of Labor and Employment year-round green themed flag ceremonies  tagged “DOLE in Green, Sa Isip, Sa Salita at Sa Gawa.”

In support of its Green Our DOLE Program (GODP), the Department of Labor and Employment has reserved its Monday mornings for green initiatives its offices can emulate. Beginning January of this year, all attached agencies, bureaus, services, and selected regional offices have been directed to host Department flag ceremonies based on this green theme.

For the Institute for Labor Studies, its green presentation held on January 16, 2012 at the DOLE Ople Hall, focused on its ongoing advocacy for Green Jobs, with the theme “Greening Jobs: More Fun in the Philippines.”

Since 2007 the Institute for Labor Studies has been doing pioneer research work on climate change and employment. In 2011, their research work on green jobs, resulted to the 1st Philippine Green Jobs Conference conducted in August 2011, with the cooperation of the Climate Change Commission, National Youth Commission, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and the Department of Trade and Industry.

“With the increasing numbers of climate change events and its harder impact on people and jobs, it is difficult to avoid the overwhelming impact of climate change to employment,” said Cynthia R. Cruz, Executive Director of the Institute for Labor Studies.

“Its getting more and more difficult to turn a blind eye on how climate change is affecting our workplaces and our livelihoods, which is why the impetus for greening jobs is higher now more than ever,” said Cruz.

Based on the ___ survey, the Philippines is one of the most…. Affected by climate change.
