The Inter-Agency Committee on Research and Statistical Matters (IAC-RSM) proceeded with the second leg of a series of capacity-building activities for the technical staff of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on July 16, 2015.

More than 20 DOLE staff dealing with research and statistical matters participated in the training on statistical data generation and formatting, which was organized by the Institute for Labor Studies (ILS).

The training introduced CSPro 4.1, or the Census and Survey Processing System, as the main operational software package used to enter, edit, tabulate and disseminate data from surveys and censuses, such as the quarterly-issued Labor Force Survey.

Four major learning sessions comprised the capacity building: navigating the data dictionary, creating and editing value sets, conducting simple and complex tabulations, and formatting tables using Microsoft Excel. Workshops followed the lectures given for each learning session.

The training enabled the participants to generate different statistical tables on labor and employment from data found in the Labor Force Survey Public-Use Files and translate them into proper formats.

Christine Ariola, Anabelle Riego de Dios, Carlo Garcia, and Lady Dianne Calimag from the Philippine Statistics Authority were tapped as resource persons for the training.

The first phase of the capacity-building activities was held on June 25-26, addressing the crucial link between research and policymaking.

The ILS serves as the DOLE IAC-RSM Secretariat.
